Solar Power Systems
Solar power systems can be sold in kit form. In this form they include everything you need to set up the system. The panels, the wiring to transform the panels into an array, the storage and current conversion systems; and of course lots and lots of wiring to connect everything are usually included in starter kits. If you’re unsure what you need, many local contractors will be happy to help you out with information.
One thing that’s always asked about is the ideal size of a solar system. The answer to that is tricky, and a less than forthright contractor can fleece you by providing a partial answer. The whole story is this. There are two types of solar systems, on grid and off grid. On grid systems supplement your power usage while tying into the utility’s public power grid. They do not need to supply 100% of your power needs, and can be built to just about whatever size you need.
The other type of solar power system is off grid. In this system your home or business is completely taken off the power grid, and is self-sufficient for its power. In this system a careful and honest evaluation of your actual power usage should be done. The system will need to supply more power than you actually use to account for peaks in your usage, as well as system loss. Most contractors can walk you through the particulars of figuring out what size system you will need to go off grid.
